Sealants in Royse City

Our DentistCan Help Prevent Decay

Dental sealants on molars and premolars can help protect teeth against decay. True to their name, these thin plastic coatings fill in the grooves of the chewing surfaces and keep food and plaque from settling in and causing rot. Our Royse City dentist recommend children and teens have sealants put in place as soon as their permanent back teeth come in. In some rarer cases, when the teeth are particularly vulnerable, we may recommend sealants for baby teeth, as well. At Comfort Care Dental, you can trust us to present you with the options and our professional opinion, but never push you or your family into treatments that aren’t necessary.

What to Expect from Sealant Application

Sealants can often be done as part of your routine checkup or cleaning appointment. It is a simple, painless procedure that can be completed fairly quickly, but the results are very effective. Sealants are very common, and they are generally covered by insurance.

We follow these steps when applying a sealant:

  • We clean the tooth thoroughly.
  • We keep the tooth dry using cotton.
  • We roughen up the surface of the tooth to help the sealant adhere.
  • We rinse and dry the tooth again.
  • We paint on the sealant and let it dry and harden, sometimes using a special curing light.

Often, we’ll do several molars at once, but in the event of a missing or worn sealant, we may only seal one tooth at a time. When well cared for, sealants can last for 10 years but should be checked regularly during your routine cleanings. Our dentist in Royse City can replace your sealants as necessary, which can help keep your teeth healthy for years to come.
